Rhönexpress – Railway-Bike-Express

What to do with an old railroad? That was the question then, when the rails were lifted of the ground. Now there’s a cycle path, 30 km long, that wiggles through the landscape and villages in the so-called Rhön, a region in the north of Bavaria. To keep railway history alive, former traffic lights or other technical stuff became features of the new path. The paintings are part of a bigger design-concept made by landscape architecture studio Topo Neo. Also relict of the past are those small houses – used for signal technique back then – that are now spraypainted with historical motifs, based on a special stencil technique…quite grinding but worth the effort. A text, which you can find on every single house, provides some background-information for the viewer.
